UPDATE 1 (April 11, 2015)
We have received an initial batch of second-generation FiiO X3s. Available now through our Amazon store.

ORIGINAL POST:

FiiO is in the final stages of preparing the next generation X3 DAP for release. The U.S. launch will be slated for sometime in May of 2015. Follow us on Twitter for updates on availability. In the meantime, we will summarize what we know about the next generation X3 here. Most of the information is obtained from the X3 2nd gen thread on Head-Fi.

The first generation X3 won over many high-resolution audio enthusiasts. FiiO seeks to build upon a solid-performing DAP with the second generation model. The new X3 will look very much like its little brother, the FiiO X1. Button layout, scroll wheel, and screen size are identical to the X1. The X3 will be a bit thicker due to more significant internal hardware (DAC and amp). Like the X1, the upcoming X3 will most likely not offer onboard memory for personal file storage. A Cirrus Logic CS4398 will handle DAC duties, replacing the Wolfson WM8740 from the first generation. FiiO downsized the battery for the next generation X3 (2600 mAh, down from 3000 mAh), but runtime will be longer than the previous generation with hardware and software improvements.
